MIZUglónk programme

The MIZUglónk programme was launched by the Municipality of Zugló with the aim of bringing the planning and development tasks of the municipality related to environmental protection and urban development closer to the residents of the district. On the MIZUglónk website you can find general information about our projects, news and events, and information about national and international grant opportunities.

The Municipality of Zugló is involved in a number of projects and programmes in which the engagement of the public, providing them with more information and raising awareness play an integral part. We believe that through citizen participation practices, more people can participate and have an impact on shaping the everyday life and future of Zugló. The MIZUglónk project office offering thematic discussions, programmes and advice aims to help in this process.

SUNRISE – Sustainable Urban Neighbourhoods – Research and Implementation Support in Europe

The Municipality of Zugló, BKK Centre for Budapest Transport and Mobilissimus Ltd. won a grant in the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and development programme for the SUNRISE project for the development of mobility in the district quarter of Törökőr in Zugló. The project was a joint venture of an international consortium of the municipalities of Bremen, Jerusalem, Malmö, Southend-on-Sea and Thessaloniki and Zugló as well as research institutes and universities. The aim of the project was to design and implement innovative, sustainable transport solutions in partnership with the local community to make selected neighbourhoods in the participating cities more people-centred and liveable. The project ran between 2017 and 2021, and 8 different project concept proposals were made integrating the results of community planning. 2 project concept proposals were implemented; one concerning Tábornok street and the other focusing on Újvidék square. Traffic calming measures were introduced and more comfortable and safer pedestrian crossings were created on Tábornok street. Around the area of Újvidék square the physical and visual highlighting of a pedestrian crossing was completed, tactile pavement signs were installed to assist the visually impaired, as well as speed humps and signs were put out. The CIVITAS SUNRISE project was funded by the European Union’s Horizon2020 research and development programme (No: 72 33 65).

AWAIR

The Municipality of Zugló launched its research, training and awareness-raising activities on air quality and air quality in 2018, as part of the international project AWAIR, which involved 7 partners and 5 associated partners from academia, research and municipalities across 5 countries in the framework of the Interreg Central Europe programme. The main aim of the AWAIR project was to make the air in and around Budapest cleaner and to provide people with more information about air quality. For 1 month in January 2019, the National Meteorological Institute’s mobile air quality monitoring laboratory measured the air in Zugló and the Municipal Air Quality Protection Platform was created as a knowledge-sharing community of active municipalities that want to take action for clean air. A study summarising the results of the AWAIR project survey on urban air quality was made available on our website, in which you can find out more about what the residents in and around Budapest think about their local air quality, the main pollutants and the health impacts of air pollution, and the most important courses of action. The international cooperation project was funded by the European Regional Development Fund from the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme. The participation of the Municipality of Zugló in the project was co-financed by the Hungarian State.

Chestnut

The aim of the CHESTNUT project was to contribute to developing a better-connected and interoperable environmentally friendly transport & safe system in functional urban areas (FUA) of Danube Region. As a result of the project, a study has been completed to prepare the foundation for the Sustainable Transport Plan of Zugló and it includes more than 100 actions that support the following objectives: contributing to a more liveable and people-centred city, where transport is a service accessible for all, where environmentally-friendly modes of transport are at the forefront, achieved through the cooperation of authorities, institutions, professional organisations and the public. Another result was that in the spring of 2019, the section of Szugló Street in Újvidék Square was turned into a car-free public space on a trial basis, merging the two parts of the park cut in two by a road, while the municipality created Kiss and Ride zones around the school on the square. The project was implemented through the Danube Transnational Programme, with the support of the European Regional Development Fund, and it was co-financed by the European Union and the Hungarian State.
